Olinsky became well-known in the art world for his works depicting beautiful young women, usually found sitting alone in an interior or engaged in some sort of domestic activity. In this painting, the artist depicts his eldest daughter, who served as a model for a number of his works. A native of Russia, Olinsky was a highly respected instructor at the both the National Academy of design and the Art Students League in New York City.
