A Divine Artist — The Ascended Master Paul the Venetian

The ascended masters are those who have learned all of their lessons on earth and ascended back to heavenly realms. The ascended masters are similar to patron saints. Those who perfected particular professions while on earth are often the sponsors of others in those fields once they have achieved their own ascension and are no longer required to take embodiment on earth. The final incarnation of the ascended master Paul the Venetian was as Paolo Veronese, an Italian master painter.

Some art historians consider Veronese to be the founder of modern painting. Paolo Veronese was an Italian painter born in 1528 to a successful sculptor. At fourteen, Veronese apprenticed with a local master painter named Antonio Badile. However, Veronese’s artistic gifts soon surpassed the training he could receive locally. Veronese’s also had a preference for a more brilliant palette than that of his contemporaries.

Veronese went to Venice in 1555 to decorate the ceiling of the church called San Sebastiano. He received additional commissions for an altar-piece and smaller works. Then he began a series of historical paintings for a castle near Vicenza. Veronese’s reputation continued to flourish. He received increasingly important works to complete.

Veronese’s most famous painting, called Feast in the House of Levi, began as a depiction of The Last Supper. However, he was required to appear in front of an Inquisition panel to explain the undignified detail and unusual figures including a soldier and a dwarf that appear in the painting. Rather than try to argue over the painting’s content, Veronese simply called the painting Feast in the House of Levi.

Veronese also produced other works such as sketches, pen and ink drawings and chalk sketches. Many of his drawings became sought after by collectors. Unlike many other artists with reputations for bad tempers and wild living, Veronese was reputed to be warm, friendly, and kind. He had a teaching studio that was continued after he died by two of his sons. Some art historians consider Veronese to be the founder of modern painting.

As an ascended master, Paul the Venetian is known for his love of beauty and ability to lift others to a higher vision of life. He is, indeed, the patron saint of artists and artisans of all kinds.
